Just when we thought things could not get any better than the Prayer Conference we had here at North Rome Church of God, here comes Trey Thompson, our youth pastor with a great idea.  Trey and his wife Haven have been with the North Rome Church of God for 9 months, and the two of them working together have completely turned our youth student ministry around. Trey has a vision of taking our youth into the deeper things of God. 

 

The youth have plenty of recreational time.  There is always something fun to do, but the true focus is on the souls and spiritual welfare of the teens.   Trey realizes if we do not start teaching these students the basic principles of morals and how to stay pure, most of them will never hear it.  Many of our youth come from broken homes where the parents take no interest in teaching them right from wrong.  We are proud of those who do come from Christian homes.  They do live an example in front of the other teens.  We have so much to be thankful for concerning our youth student ministry.

 

This past Friday evening, February 25, 2011, The Silver Ring Thing came to North Rome and put on a dynamic presentation about abstinence and staying pure till marriage.  One of the highlights was, at the end of the service the parents of the teens could purchase a Purity Ring for their teen and place it on his/her finger as a reminder to stay pure and that they  made a promise to God and themselves.  The sanctuary was full of teens wanting to hear how to do this in such a time of strong peer pressure and each time they turn on any media, sexual immorality and sin are right in their faces.

 

The Silver Ring Thing witnessed with different scenarios, being put in difficult situations, yet coming out the victor.  The strobe lights, bright lights, loud music, jumping up and down (worshipping in a way that only they can worship), testimonies, T-shirts and blue jeans.  The atmosphere had come alive. 

 

Harold Jones, our Senior Pastor was keeping beat with the music.  He loves to see our young people blessed.  When it was all said and done, 100 teens walked out with Purity Rings and a Promise, and 30 teens accepted Jesus as their personal Savior.

 

This is definitely a step up to the next level.
